There are so many different books/materials for NPTE.
I listed those I used and my comments about them, hope someone can benefit from my experience.
NPTE Review and Study Guide
I just call it the O'Sullivan book. Most of my friends use this one for study and I do agree this is an excellent book.
It's very detailed and well-organized, with a lot of tables.
There are 2 practice exams (200 questions for each) included in the book with CD that can be used as computerized practice.
The questions are very simillar to the real NPTE comparing to other materials.
Each question has detailed explanation not just telling you why to choose this answer but also why not other choices.
There's not much difference between each version, no worry about that.
By the way, TherapyEd also provides a new practice exam of 200 question online, good for purchase other than PEAT.
Where to purchase: TherapyED
IER Exam Preperation Physical Therapy Course Manual
My classmate recommanded this to me.
Basically, it's almost the same as the O'Sullivan book, but it's much simplified.
You may use it when you're sick of reading O'Sullivan, but you better finish reading O'Sullivan once first before reading IER.
I can't find any official website for purchasing this one. Anyone interested can google and you'll find something "interesting".
Here's the result for searching on amazon: amazon
Kaplan National Physical Therapy Exam
I must say NEVER buy this book, it's just wasting your time and money.
It's just a book, no CD for computerized practice. All PAPER work.
The context is relatively simple, comparing to the O'Sullivan one. Not much tables or graphs.
I think this book is more like a dictionary, instead of a text book.
There are some "obvious" mistakes, the one I remember is about Parkinson disease: what is the tremor you can see in a PD patient?
The answer is "intension tremor". (WTF?! Everyone knows it should be resting tremor!!!)
From then on, I don't really trust this book so much.
The questions are way too easy and straight forward, unlike real NPTE.
If you want to get this book, even though I don't recommand, from: amazon
Saunders' Q&A Physical Therapy Board Examination
I took the practice part only.
There are 6 practice tests with 250 questions for each one.
The questions are a little harder than real NPTE, especially in pharmacology and radiology.
If you finish reading all the materials and want some tests, this is the one.
However, don't get frustrated if you get poor score, Saunders is a little beyond the scope of NPTE.
You can get it from amazon: amazon
NPTE Review simulation software
The one I had contained 16 exams, 250 questions each.
Some of the questions are too easy, e.g.:
What is a bimalleolar fracture?
A) involves the medial malleolar, B) involves the lateral malleolar, C) A and B, D) A or B
Some of the questions have long descriptions, but not related to the question itself; just read the last sentence.
Some of the questions are just so weird that you don't even know what are they about.
Some of the questions don't even match the answers below.
Those after Exam 9 have a lot of "fill-in the blank" question, some of them even tell you the answer in the question. Don't waste time doing them.
If you want to see how terrible the questions are, just: amazon
Good luck to everyone taking NPTE!!!
